A Pep Talk Via Paperback
One thing about me I rarely share with people: I play it safe. I’m hesitant to step outside of my comfort zone, but I’m on a path to change this habit.
After reading the summary of “You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life” by Jen Sincero, I thought this might be the book to kick-start me in a new direction. I didn’t really see it as a “self help” book. It looked more motivational than anything, so jumped in with both feet.
The reviews on Amazon are enough to let you know not everyone loves Jen’s writing style. It’s casual, in-your-face, and no nonsense. She wants you to listen and listen good. While her teachings aren’t exactly breaking news, her approach is fresh and in my opinion, appreciated.
There are so many takeaways from You Are A Badass, but I’ll focus on just a few.
“On the other side of your fear is freedom.”
I needed this reminder. I’ve been playing it pretty safe for a while. I could keep playing it safe and stay exactly where I am – or I could take a few risks and see what happens.
I’ve only got one life – may as well live it and make it a good one.
“What other people think about you has nothing to do with you and everything to do with them.”
STOP overthinking things. Who cares what anyone else might think about you, your idea or your story. We build these things up in our minds when they don’t even really exist.
How To Be A Badass is a book readers find highly inspiring or completely ridiculous. Personally, I’m putting her words into action.
